Matsushima-wan Yuran Shimameguri Basho Course

Introduction A 50-minute one-way sightseeing course by boat from Shiogama to Matsushima. A famous Japanese haiku poet Matsuo Basho (1644 - 1694)left Shiogama for Matsushima by boat during his travel throughout Tohoku as written in his travelogue "Oku no Hosomichi". The Matsuhima Bay Cruise - Island Hopping Basho Course, closely traces the route that Basho traveled by boat.

Approximately 260 islands are floating along Matsushima Bay and each of them offers a unique view such as Nio-jima island, which has been eroded by wind and waves into the shape of a guardian of the temple, or Kane-jima island, which has cave-like tunnels. Shiogama Port is full of vibrant atmosphere with fishing boats and patrol vessels of the Japan Coast Guard coming and going.

The sightseeing boat even goes through shallow water at a depth of 2 meters so that passengers can take a close look at beautiful islands. Passengers should fully enjoy the dynamic scenery, one of the main features offered by the Basho course.

One of Three Great Views in Japan - Matsushima Island Cruise

Introduction It's a 50-minute cruise of 17 kilometers going around Matsushima Bay. Passengers are able to view nearly 100 islands out of 260 inside and outside the Bay.

Nio-jima island, which has been eroded by wind and waves into a monstrous shape imaging a guardian of the temple, and Kane-jima island, which has cave-like tunnels are just a few of those to be enjoyed!

The boat goes out on the open ocean, outside Matsushima Bay. In contrast to the islands inside the bay, which are round-shaped and feminine, islands on the open ocean expose rock surface being eroded about by angry waves that makes them appear more masculine. Passengers may find it interesting how different these islands are.

Tour of the Japanese Garden

Introduction Buddhist rosaries are ritual articles of the Zen and other sects. People bring one with them to funerals, memorial services, or when visiting a grave for praying hands. It's perceived that they eradicate calamities and provide comfort, and most people carry one with them regardless of regilion.

At Entsu-in, visitors can make these rosaries by hand. Several materials are available; genuine stones (large and small) representing various meanings, glass ones that are easy to handle, and plastic style. Those who choose genuine stones will get briefed on the meanings of the stones after the creation is complete.

The venue is in the main hall surrounded by a sedate presence. Why don't you create your own Buddhist rosary at a peaceful Zen temple and recollect yourself?
